We met in the lovely setting of Puck's Oak Orchard at Compton in Surrey, for an enjoyable and industrious September day. It began with a tour of the orchard led by my husband Philip, who is a volunteer with the Surrey Wildlife Trust, owners of the property. Following on were refreshments, demonstrations, lunch that included plums and apples from the orchard plus plenty of drawing and painting in various media. The participants ranged from beginners to very experienced.
Students worked in watercolour, soft pastel and oil pastel. We also discussed some acrylic techniques. A range of top-up materials were provided for people to try out. A heavy shower drove us indoors in the early afternoon but the spacious tables enabled us to spread out fungi, leaves and fruits and allowed us to continue.
